City Emblem of the Hero-City of Volgograd

General shape of the City Emblem of the Hero-city of Volgograd is traditionally heraldic. Golden shield divided into two parts by the ribbon of the “Medal for Stalingrad Defense” is taken as its basis. The upper part of the emblem symbolizes the impregnable fortress on the river Volga. It is represented as merlons of the fortress wall, colored in red. Red is a symbol of courage, blood, shed for Motherland, strength and energy. The medal “Golden Star” the city is awarded with contributes to it as the medal is painted in gold against a red background. The lower part of the emblem represents a gold gear, symbolizing developed city industry and a gold wheat sheaf – the symbol of the fruitful land of Volgograd. Blue color on the whole field of the emblem symbolizes the river Volga. The correlation of the width to the height is 8:9.

The Flag of the Hero-city of Volgograd

The flag of the Hero-city of Volgograd represents a red, right-angled cloth with a double-sided picture of the emblem of the Hero-city of Volgograd in the center. The correlation of the width to the height of the flag should be 2:3. Red is the primordial color of the Russian national flags, symbolizing courage, blood, shed for Motherland, strength and energy. The picture of the emblem of the Hero-city of Volgograd against the flag’s background symbolizes the flag’s belonging to the city. Correlation of the squares of the emblem and of the flag should be 1:7.
